About Marcel Bogers

I am a researcher, teacher, and student of innovation. I have always been fascinated by how organizations design, organize, and manage innovation. My work focuses on openness in innovation processes, which I have studies in a wide variety of context.

I serve as Full Professor of Open & Collaborative Innovation at the Innovation, Technology Entrepreneurship & Marketing (ITEM) group, Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences (IE&IS), Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). I am also a Research Fellow at the Institute for Business Innovation at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley.

My research explores themes such as open innovation, business models, and university–industry collaboration. Beyond research and teaching, I engage with organizations worldwide through keynotes, lectures, and workshops, helping them apply insights on open and collaborative innovation to real-world challenges.

Academic journey

I hold a combined B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Technology and Society from Eindhoven University of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Management of Technology from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL).

Before joining TU/e, I worked at the University of Southern Denmark and the University of Copenhagen, and I have held visiting positions at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Trento. I have also taught as guest lecturer at institutions such as Politecnico di Milano, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Copenhagen Business SchoolLab for Open Innovation in Science, and Erasmus Economics & Business Executive Education.

As part of my academic journey, I have always been looking for ways to add value to the community, for example as a journal reviewer, special issue editor, or other volunteering roles at conferences (e.g., for the TIM Division at the Academy of Management). I am currently the Conference Chair of the World Open Innovation Conference
